I was one of the founding members 3½ years ago who started the Art League of Lincoln when Lincoln Arts closed. The Feats of Clay exhibit and tours was LincolnArts signature event but the name and logo were sent to Placer Arts per non profit requirements. So we chose the name of America's ClayFest and planned to continue the event. Then Gladding McBean decided to close to the public - which I understand but I was devastated as sharing the history and art of Gladding McBean has been my passion for 20 years.
Because of the history and scope of the ceramic exhibit, we couldn't find a venue in Lincoln for a 6 week exhibit and accepted the Blueline Gallery's offer to co-produce America's ClayFest & house the major part of the exhibit at their gallery in Roseville. Mike Daley, Bill and Cathie Szabo and many other volunteers have invested thousands of hours to produce this successful exhibit for 3 years.
Over the years, though, I have been asked hundreds of times why we can't use the Feats of Clay name and logo in Lincoln where the event started. It's a name that has been associated with Lincoln for 27 years! Paul Apfel's article in the July 17 Lincoln News Messenger announced that the Art League of Lincoln finally has the opportunity to bring it back to Lincoln. It will not replace America's ClayFest nor the had work invested there but will take on a new form which is yet to be determined.
We would love to have community input of ideas as to exhibits, events, etc. all through the year. Please submit your ideas to info@all4art.net.

I got a lot done today!
I finished Mr.Bear 4. I hope he survives firing.
My first two bowls:
"Tidepool"
"Autumn Memories"
I think this photo is an optical illusion! We are actually looking inside the bowl not the outside.
I just got started carving the leaves when I had to leave.
My "back door" view of the GMcB "shire"

I was back at it today. My eye is doing well with the new lens but have to work around putting 3 kinds of drops - 4 times a day (two have to be refrigerated)! but I can drive and see a lot clearer. I can't wait to have my right eye done on Aug. 3!
I finished carving 2 pipe- one for Mr. Pickles - guess which one?
This is a new version of "I love you California" bear. This photo was taken when I first got in this am. He has come a long way since. He's about 18" high and will go on a glazed pipe. I carved little oak leaf and flower stamps so that I can add more detail to the base. On a walk to Models and Moulds I had a scavenger hunt for pieces of wood and stuff that I could use to create texture on the base and "fur" on his body. Tomorrow I will work on the tree stumps behind him.
The small bear is a version that I did about 5 years ago and had Jesse Cardenas make a mould so I will make some more of these as people really love him.
